Darrel Chapman Fun Run: Running for Indi, Supporting Our Kids
Some causes hit close to home.
The Darrel Chapman Fun Run has been a part of Lismore for over 25 years, raising money for Our Kids, a local charity that helps keep sick children close to home when they need urgent medical care. In 2024, Terania Consulting stepped up as an event sponsor, proud to support a cause that has directly impacted families within their team.
For one group, this run carried an even deeper meaning. Members of the Lismore Council Flood Team, including Terania’s Chris Pickford and Dan Wagner, joined a team in memory of Indi, the daughter of one of their colleagues who passed away from a congenital heart defect in 2018. They call themselves Running for Indi - a tribute to her and a way to make a difference in her name.
Terania covered the cost of custom shirts and printing, ensuring the team could run together under one name. By the end of the event, the Lismore community had raised a total of $26,000, funding essential medical equipment such as breast milk warmers and a humidicrib for Lismore’s Special Care Nursery and Children’s Ward. Sponsoring an event is one thing. Standing beside your teammates and showing up for your community is another. Terania is committed to both.
Science Saving Rainforests: Protecting the Big Scrub for Future Generations
Healthy rainforests don’t happen by chance. They thrive because people step up to protect them.
Terania Consulting is proud to support the Science Saving Rainforests initiative, a groundbreaking project led by Big Scrub Rainforest Conservancy. This initiative is tackling one of the biggest threats to Australia’s critically endangered lowland subtropical rainforest - genetic decline. By restoring the genetic diversity of key tree species, the project ensures that future rainforests are stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to withstand disease, pests, and climate change.
As a project supporter, Terania is donating surveying and engineering services to help bring this vision to life. The work is already taking shape—seedlings propagated from carefully selected mother trees are growing quickly, landscape design for the plantation is underway, and site amenities are being developed.
Science-driven conservation is the key to ensuring the Big Scrub doesn’t just survive, but flourishes. Being part of this effort alongside NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Stone & Wood Brewing, The Rekindle Foundation, Brookfarm, and other dedicated partners is a privilege.
Every strong forest starts with a single seed. By applying expertise where it’s needed most, Terania is helping to grow a rainforest that will stand the test of time.

As part of this commitment, Principal Registered Surveyor Jeff Pickford recently mentored students at the University of Southern Queensland’s (UniSQ) Surveying & Spatial Science residential school, giving first-year students hands-on experience in real-world surveying techniques.
With a critical shortage of surveyors across Australia—highlighted in a recent Oxford Economics Australia report for Consulting Surveyors National—supporting young professionals is more important than ever. By sharing expertise and investing in emerging talent, Terania is taking an active role in shaping the future of industry.
